Under The Axe
Dreams about dismemberment are quite common among individuals who are going through a period of egoic transformation. It’s an initiation, an editing process, a filtering out, a purge. Painful and bloody, amoral, it is a trek into the living chaos of the underworld, or, inner world. Drinking from the cup of sacrifice, praying it will pass one’s fate, knowing that it won’t, one surrenders to the darkness to resurrect to a new day. This is a process, whether it be slow or sudden, and the dust must settle to succeed in the cull.
For myself, I think my current reconfiguration (as a response to my own recent dismemberment dream) is one concerned mostly with aesthetic, artistic rebirth, and intentionally illuminating what I want to make- of art, of the details of daily life, of being a woman perceived, of being a creator and curator of my own world.
As I allow the hacking away of the limbs of life gone limp, of the excess of personality no longer needed, of the organs atrophied after taking in toxins, I’m left with pieces that I proudly recognize. I become my own creation, but also not my own, as divine blessing is required for a triumphant ascent. This divinity: maybe Fate, maybe the Muse, the Self, Goddess, God, Source, the One who holds the purity of intuitive power- this divinity communicates its intelligence to my own. I stay the path because I recognize it. The pieces of the path; clues, the pieces of the body that holds me; tranformed.
I stand by what I’ve created thus far, but I am instinctively pulled to turn a totally new direction, and I am relishing in protecting that with ruthlessness. To play with the myriad of assumptions projected upon me, and of my own projections… to take to the axe and let the body of old stories die, to clear the path as I go, to stop and recognize the roses on the way, to be a rose and to thank my thorns, I am made by these things.
